Power Through African Art
Power is very evident in African Art, whether it be through sculpture or even dance. Throughout this exhibition, you will see two sides of Power that is shown through African Art. The first side will be through the Power of Accumulation. In this part of the exhibition, you will see pieces ranging from Bamana sculpture to Ghanian Rulers. You will see how the Power of Accumulation can benefit communities as well as the political power it can show and maintain. The other side of Power through African Art the exhibition will show you is the power through dance and masquerades. The embodiment of the dancer turns the dancer into someone who they are not, providing them with powers that are un able to reach without the dance. These powers can help communicate to fallen ancestors, or promote fertility. Through Accumulation and Embodiment, you will get a glimpse of the Power African Art can have! Enjoy!
